How does an Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP) work?

• The heat pump operates like a fridge, but in reverse. Installed outside your home. They absorb heat from the outside air which is then used to heat radiators, underfloor heating system and hot water.
• Compared to traditional heating systems like boilers, the carbon footprint of an air source heat pump is very low.
• A property that is to have an ASHP installed must be very well insulated. Also  radiator size may also need to be increased, as heat pumps operate at lower temperatures than a conventional gas fired heating system. 
• They are ideally suited to new build properties where the heating is underfloor. 

Note that not all properties in the UK are suitable for an ASHP.
